T O P I C R E V I E WXodianWhat my father told me when I was 8:"The men in our family have always gone in three different routes in life; We have either become Engineers, Businessmen or Soldiers. I chose to be an Engineer because it requires a great deal more effort to build something than to tear it down. Build a better life for yourself and those around you son."Well I am sure the men in my family would be pleased with the fact that I walked all three routes Lol! I was a soldier but now I am an Engineer and a Businessman. And my Dad is right... It is hard work to build something up rather than tear it down. But there is no greater happiness in watching something take shape that you put your blood, sweat and tears into making. Thanks for everything dad.And Happy Father's Day to all you Dads and dads to be.CosmiqPhuzMy dad's an engineer too. Very intelligent man. If I wasn't musically inclined, I probably would have went down the engineer path. I picked up the guitar because my dad and uncle played, though. Me and my dad butt heads a lot. We'd probably have a better relationship if we weren't related. We make a great team when we have an objective goal like building/fixing something. We brewed our own beer recipe from scratch. He's not a bad guy, but once we get our emotions involved, it's bad. He's a Capricorn, I'm Libra. Here's to you, dad.AquacheekaI know this is a day late but I really think we need more recognition for the fathers who didn't have to be. Those who did a dam* good job raising someone who they were not biologically related to. It takes a really special person to do that. Shout-out to the adoptive fathers and stepfathers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjO1F6oCab8 I hope they know that they are loved and appreciated everydayCosmiqPhuz quote:Originally posted by Aquacheeka:I know this is a day late but I really think we need more recognition for the fathers who didn't have to be. I've always liked Brad Paisley's guitar playing, but I've never really gotten into the modern country thing. I should check him out more.Aquacheeka quote:Originally posted by CosmiqPhuz: Good song. I appreciate that not all fathers were around and some people never got to know their father, but I just feel like it takes away from the men who do a great job.Mother's day exists for mothers who did both. I'm not taking away from the struggle, but the negativity has no place on Father's Day IMO.xMaybe I'm being heartless of insensitive, but I just don't feel we appreciate good men enough. To all the dads who did a great job, happy Father's Day and for the men who stepped up when others stepped down - props to you too. XI agree with you and noticed someone who was not even a great mother wishing herself a Happy Fathers Day last week too. It's sad that she's convinced herself she was both now.I guess it's a new trend and some people are quick to jump on that bandwagon and not face the facts.Let the fathers that were actually good dad's enjoy their day. It's not Single Mother's Day. I don't know if it's become popular for men do the same thing on Mother's day, but if they do, i feel that it's wrong too.PixieJaneI haven't noticed that Father's Day has been "taken away." There sure were enough sales and cards, and Amazon sent me all sorts of things I should buy Dad. A couple of years ago I heard one mom complain about the only card they (she and her husband) get is the one the school has him make (I figured she should be glad that he gave it to them rather than throw it away after he got his grade as I did when I was a child, though that was after I was mocked for it so the next year I just threw the cards away rather than take them home), though I don't know how common that is for schools to do. But it just now occurs to me that about the only time most parents invite me over and include me in neighborhood activities is at Halloween parties...maybe that reflects how they see me (and thus don't mention a lot to me). Of course many people complain about the commercialization of it as they do about all holidays, and plenty of people will gripe about their mother or father (or spouse, ex, etc). But I haven't noticed anyone turning it into "Single Mother's Day."
